On December 29, 2022, the State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China) issued the National Standard Announcement of the People’s Republic of China GB 31241-2022 “Safety Technical Specifications for Lithium-ion Batteries and Battery Packs for Portable Electronic Products”. GB 31241-2022 is a revision of GB 31241-2014. Entrusted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and led by the China Electronics Standardization Institute (CESI), the preparation of the standard was carried out through the Lithium-ion Battery and Similar Product Standard Working Group of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Lithium-ion Batteries and Similar Products Standard Working Group (former Lithium-ion Battery Safety Standards Special Working Group) was established in 2008, mainly responsible for the research and maintenance of the standard system construction in the field of lithium-ion batteries and similar products (such as sodium-ion batteries) in my country , organize the application for the compilation of national standards and industry standards for consumer, energy storage, and power lithium-ion batteries, and issue working group resolutions on standard difficult issues. The working group currently has more than 300 member units (as of December 2022), including mainstream battery companies, packaging companies, host device companies, testing institutions, and scientific research institutions in the industry. China Electronics Standardization Research Institute, as the leader and secretariat unit of the lithium-ion battery and similar product standard working group of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, will fully rely on the working group to jointly carry out lithium-ion Formulation and revision of standards for ion batteries and similar products.
